Sumba’s traditional liquor, locally known as moke, is made using bamboo tools and palm sap—an ancient method passed down through generations.

Today the trip will start at 1 p.m., and you will go to the local production of Sumba’s alcohol and brown sugar in East Sumba. Here you may see the traditional making process of the alcohol and brown sugar, from the way they collect the materials until they are ready to consume. They will share some with you as testers. When the perfect time for a sunset comes, drive to Tenau Hill. Have a short trek down the hill to enjoy the spectacular sunset view.

  1. Price and Validity
    All prices are valid from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025. Prices are net and non-commissionable; except for series groups, all rates are negotiable. All prices exclude insurance, extra luggage, visa and vaccination costs, personnel costs (such as laundry, telephone, drinks, room service, tips, etc.), and other costs specified as exclusive in the tour description. Tour prices are subject to change due to fluctuations in transport costs, fuel prices, taxes, and exchange rates, unless the tour has already been confirmed to the client by Explore Sumba.

 

  1. Payment
    Payments consist of a down payment and a final payment. The down payment is 30% of the total amount and must be made within 10 days of trip confirmation. The final payment is due 21 days before the trip starts, unless a prior agreement is made. Special conditions may apply for specific requests.

 

  1. Liability
    Explore Sumba is responsible for ensuring that the tours described on our website reasonably reflect the actual experience. Safety is our priority; if conditions are poor (e.g., unrest, landslides), the tour may be canceled. In such cases, we will modify the itinerary after obtaining agreement from the client, supported by written statements from both parties. If an agreement cannot be reached, Explore Sumba will charge for the services already rendered.

 

  1. Reservation
    Reservation requests must be submitted in writing via email and should include the confirmed itinerary, arrival and departure dates, flight details, type of services required, number of participants, and rooming list (for groups). Early reservations are encouraged, as they will receive prompt confirmation.

 

  1. Confirmation
    Explore Sumba will send confirmations as soon as we receive confirmations from our suppliers (hotels, restaurants, etc.). We will provide alternative options if certain services cannot be confirmed.

 

  1. Cancellation
    All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing via letter, email, or fax. Reimbursements will be calculated from the moment Explore Sumba receives the cancellation notice (customers may resend their cancellation if there is no response within 24 hours). All reimbursements will be processed within 30 days of receiving the cancellation.
  • Cancellations made 30 days before departure: 20% of the total amount will be charged.
  • Cancellations made 29 to 10 days before departure: 50% of the total amount will be charged.
  • Cancellations made 9 to 6 days before departure: 75% of the total amount will be charged.
  • Cancellations made 5 days or less before departure: 100% of the total amount will be charged.
  • Note: Conditions are subject to change based on hotel policies, and we will inform clients of any special circumstances.

  1. Children
    Children aged 0 to 2 who share a bed and meals with their parents stay free of charge. For children aged 3 to 5 who share a bed with their parents, a 50% discount applies.
